AI in Education, Spain: For innovation, engagement, and future-ready classrooms

Core Activities

Day 1: Introduction to STPM and building connections

Start the week with an active introduction to the Smart Teachers Play More (STPM) approach, emphasising the importance of collaboration, creativity, and innovation in education. Participate in energising ice-breaking activities to connect with European colleagues and build a supportive learning community. Discover Spain’s rich cultural heritage through “The Spanish Corner,” featuring engaging activities and traditions. Explore digital tools for sharing resources and fostering collaboration. Conclude the day with a relaxed social gathering at a local venue, setting the tone for a dynamic and inspiring course.

Day 2: Exploring AI in education

Dive into the transformative world of Artificial Intelligence and its growing impact on education and society. Begin with an overview of AI and an introduction to the basics of prompting for language models. Explore innovative tools such as text-to-image and text-to-video AI, discovering their creative potential in teaching.

The day continues with practical demonstrations of large language models and media-generation tools, providing a hands-on experience in understanding AI outputs. Conclude with a collaborative discussion on effectively integrating these tools into educational practices, empowering participants to embrace AI as a valuable resource for dynamic teaching.

Day 3: Crafting interactive adventures

Unleash your creativity by exploring the concept of "choose-your-own-adventure" for educational purposes. Discover how storytelling can transform lessons, making them more engaging and interactive. Learn to use various platforms and strategies for crafting educational narratives that captivate learners.

Participate in a guided workshop to design your own interactive story. Apply AI tools to enhance your creation, such as generating visuals to complement the narrative. Conclude the day by sharing and discussing your adventures with the group, exchanging feedback and ideas to refine your storytelling skills.

Day 4: Learning, reflecting, and building relationships in Altea

Experience a day of inspiration and relaxation in the picturesque village of Altea, blending learning, exploration, and cultural exchange. Begin the day by transforming the local beach into a dynamic outdoor classroom. Engage in whole-class teacher-directed movement activities and calming games designed for open spaces, fostering creativity and mindfulness. Following refreshments and a reflective session, enjoy free time to connect with European colleagues while exploring Altea’s charming streets, unique shops, and Mediterranean views.

Conclude the day with a cultural evening, featuring presentations of participants’ local foods, drinks, music, and traditions. Enjoy team-building activities and music games, creating a vibrant atmosphere of connection and celebration.

Day 5: GPTs, Personal AI assistants, and sharing good practices

Dive into advanced AI applications with a session dedicated to GPTs and personal AI assistants. Explore how these tools can revolutionise education, offering insights into effective teaching without textbooks and unlocking new possibilities for personalised learning experiences.

The afternoon focuses on collaboration and inspiration as participants share their favorite teaching activities, exchanging ideas and strategies that work best in their classrooms. A Q&A session provides an opportunity to address challenges and deepen understanding of AI integration in education.

Conclude the day with an Erasmus+ partner search session, where participants present project ideas, network, and build connections for future collaborations.

Day 6: Projects with AI and human interaction

The day begins with a recap of key AI concepts and their applications, reinforcing the knowledge and skills gained throughout the course. Delve deeper into how AI can enhance teaching, focusing on practical strategies for real-world implementation.

Shift the focus to vision planning, where participants create actionable plans to integrate AI into their teaching practices. These plans address short, medium, and long-term goals, ensuring sustained impact. Through collaborative discussions, participants share their intentions, fostering accountability and mutual support.

Conclude the day with course evaluation and feedback, reflecting on the week’s experiences and celebrating progress made toward embracing AI in education.

Day 7: Reflection, Storytelling and STPM at Santa Barbara Castle
Participants begin the morning with a short interactive storytelling session exploring a local legend connected to Santa Bárbara Castle and how storytelling, history, and multimodal learning can be combined through the STPM methodology. The day continues with a guided educational field trip from Hotel Maya through Monte Benacantil up to the different levels of the castle, followed by a walk down through Parque de la Ereta and the Barrio Santa Cruz. Along the route, participants engage in several learning stations, including mindful listening activities, mindful observation of the horizon and castle silhouette, and a team spotting and sketching challenge using cardboard frames to identify natural features, landmarks, and elements of the local environment. The experience models how outdoor and urban spaces can be used as meaningful learning environments that encourage wellbeing, creativity, reflection, and active learning.
