Welcome to Smart Teachers Play More in Finland, October 2025
Sunday - Welcome at Oodi:
We’ll begin our week with a warm welcome and registration at the inspiring Oodi Central Library at 17:00. You’ll meet your course leaders, get an introduction to the Smart Teachers Play More concept, and join some fun games to explore the library. It’s a great chance to connect with fellow participants and start an unforgettable week together!
Our course centre:
Our courses will take place at The Helsinki Observatory, located at Kopernikuksentie 1, 00130 Helsinki. This historic venue offers an inspiring blend of science, architecture, and nature. Perched on Observatory Hill, it provides panoramic views of the city and the sea — a truly beautiful setting for learning and reflection. The Observatory’s peaceful outdoor spaces are perfect for informal discussions, creative breaks, and connecting with fellow participants in the fresh air.
We will also have some course sessions at Helsinki Normal Lyceum, located at Ratakatu 6, 00120 Helsinki, A-door, Merimiehenkatu.
Each evening we will share the locations for the following day - both locations are within a short walking distance.
Â
Here are some of the special activities you’ll enjoy alongside your course sessions — a chance to experience Finnish culture, connect with others, and make your time in Helsinki even more memorable!
Â
Monday - School visit and Finnish Education System presentation (all day):
A unique opportunity to gain insider knowledge of the Finnish education system. Participants will take part in a guided school tour, observe lessons, and engage directly with Finnish educators and students at Helsinki Normal Lyceum. This immersive experience offers valuable firsthand insight into Finland’s world-renowned teaching practices and learning culture.
Â
Tuesday - Amazing Race – Helsinki Central Park (afternoon cultural session):
An engaging outdoor activity set in the beautiful surroundings of Helsinki Central Park. Participants will follow a scenic walking trail through nature, stopping at themed stations along the way. Each station presents a task or challenge inspired by Finnish culture, encouraging teamwork, creativity, and exploration in a relaxed and enjoyable environment.  Meeting point: Ruskeasuon liikuntakeskus, Ratsastie 10, 00280 Helsinki (Tram 10 to Tilkka and walking 600 M).
Â
Wednesday - Cultural Evening at Urban Sauna Kallio:
Join us for a relaxed and memorable evening at an urban sauna in Kallio! We’ll unwind the Finnish way — in the sauna — and enjoy traditional Finnish food together. Everyone is invited to share a taste of their own culture through local foods, drinks, music, or stories. The night continues with fun team-building and music games, making it a lively celebration of community, laughter, and international spirit. Meeting point: Urban sauna Kallio, Aleksis Kiven katu 22, 00510 Helsinki (Tram 3 to urheilutalo and walking 600 M).
Â
Thursday - Sharing good practice and Erasmus partner finding (as part of our course morning):
During our Sharing Good Practice session, we invite you to share a favourite classroom activity or game with the group — something practical we can all try together (about 5 minutes).
Afterwards, there will be an optional meeting for schools interested in future project partnerships. You’ll have a chance to briefly introduce your school or organisation, discuss collaboration ideas, and exchange contacts. We’ll also share an online form to help everyone stay connected.
Â
Friday - Evaluation and vision planning (as part of our course morning):
On Friday morning, our second session will focus on reflection, evaluation, and future vision planning. Together, we’ll look back on what we’ve learned, share key takeaways, and set goals for applying new ideas in our own contexts. Upon completion of the course, participants will receive a digital certificate of attendance.
Â
Saturday - Helsinki city museum:
On Saturday morning, we visit Helsinki City Museum and together reflect on the week and strengthen our new relationships. The Helsinki City Museum offers a fascinating glimpse into the city's history, culture, and daily life, from its founding to modern times.
